The rules, without the fog.
What you can expect from EaseTalk and what we expect from you. It is free during the clinical pilot, it is not a medical device, and if you are a therapist there are a few extra obligations that come with holding clinical responsibility.
In short
These are the rules for using EaseTalk. Use it for practice, keep your account to yourself, and do not use it in place of care from a qualified clinician.
EaseTalk is free during the clinical pilot. There is no subscription to cancel today.
It is a pilot, so things change and the service will occasionally be unavailable. Nothing here is a guarantee that it will always work.
If you are a therapist using the portal, section 5 adds some obligations that apply to you because you hold clinical responsibility for your clients.
Irish law applies, and nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer under Irish or EU law.
1Who these terms are between
These terms are an agreement between you and EaseTalk, a speech and communication practice product developed at University College Cork, Western Road, Cork, Ireland. In these terms, EaseTalk, we and us mean the provider of the service, and you means the person using it.
The service covers the EaseTalk mobile app, the therapist portal at app.easetalk.com, and this website. By creating an account or using the service, you accept these terms.
2Eligibility and age
EaseTalk is intended for adults, and the minimum age is 13.
Ireland sets the digital age of consent at 16. If you are under 16 and living in Ireland, consent to process your personal data has to be given or authorised by a parent or guardian, so please go through the consent screens with them. The same point is made in section 14 of the privacy policy.
If you are using EaseTalk as part of care arranged by a clinician, you should also follow whatever your service requires.
3Your account
You are responsible for your account, so please:
- give accurate details when you sign up, and keep them up to date;
- keep your password to yourself and do not let anyone else use your account;
- tell us promptly if you think someone has got into it.
If you are a person practising, your account can be linked to a therapist by redeeming an invite from them, or you can use EaseTalk without being linked to anyone. Linking is what makes assigned practice and therapist review possible. Sharing your progress with a linked therapist is a separate, optional consent, which is covered in the privacy policy.
4Acceptable use
Please do not:
- use EaseTalk for anything unlawful, or to harm, harass or impersonate someone;
- share your account, or use someone else's;
- try to break, overload, probe or get unauthorised access to the service;
- copy, resell or redistribute the service or its content;
- try to extract or reverse engineer the models, prompts or scenario definitions behind the AI features, which is also covered in the AI terms;
- enter other people's personal or health information into a practice;
- rely on any output of the service for a clinical decision.
If you use the service in a way that risks harm to you, to somebody else, or to the service, we may suspend or end your access. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.
5Therapist accounts
This section applies in addition to the rest of these terms if you hold a therapist account and use the portal.
Credentials
You confirm that you are a qualified speech and language therapist or another appropriately qualified professional, that you are registered with the relevant professional body where registration is required in your jurisdiction, and that you are acting within your scope of practice.
Professional responsibility
You keep clinical responsibility for your clients. EaseTalk supports your workflow and does not exercise clinical judgement. In particular:
- you decide what practice to assign and whether it is appropriate;
- you interpret what comes back, and you may accept, edit or disregard anything the system produced;
- you do not rely on EaseTalk to detect risk, escalate a concern, or monitor a client, because it does not do those things;
- you keep your own clinical records, in your own system, to your own professional and legal standards. EaseTalk is not a clinical record system.
Client data
- Only access data about clients you are actually treating, and only for the purpose of their care.
- Follow your own organisation's information governance and data protection obligations, which sit alongside ours.
- Understand that a client's sharing consent is theirs. If they withdraw it, you stop receiving new information, and that is their right rather than a fault.
- Remember that you do not receive full conversation transcripts, and do not ask a client to work around that.
If you are considering EaseTalk for a service rather than for yourself, please talk to us about a pilot so the data protection arrangements can be put in place properly.
6Medical disclaimer
EaseTalk is not a medical device
EaseTalk supports communication practice and confidence building. It is not a medical device, diagnostic tool, or substitute for care from a qualified speech and language therapist or other healthcare professional. It does not diagnose, assess, or decide treatment, and it is not a crisis or emergency service. Seek professional advice for clinical decisions.
If you need urgent help, contact your treating clinician or your GP, or call the emergency services on 112 or 999. Do not use EaseTalk to raise an emergency.
Do not stop, start or change any treatment on the basis of anything in the app.
7AI features
Conversations in EaseTalk are generated by AI. The AI terms form part of these terms and set out what the AI is for, which providers are involved, and what its limitations are.
Two points are worth repeating here. AI output is probabilistic and can be wrong. Speech recognition mishears atypical speech more often than typical speech, which is why the app shows you what it heard, and why nothing in EaseTalk should be read as a measurement of your speech.
8Cost, subscriptions and in app purchases
EaseTalk is free to use during the clinical pilot. There is no subscription, no in app purchase to make, and nothing to cancel.
The app is built with the ability to support paid subscriptions through the Apple App Store and Google Play, and if that is ever switched on, this section will be updated before it applies to you. At that point the following would apply, and we set it out now so it is not a surprise later:
- Billing would be handled by Apple or Google under their own terms, not by us directly, and cancellation would be through your App Store or Google Play account.
- Subscriptions would renew automatically until cancelled, and the renewal price and period would be shown before you buy.
- As a consumer in the EU you have a 14 day right of withdrawal on distance contracts. For digital content that you ask to start immediately, that right can be lost once supply begins with your express consent and acknowledgement, which is what the app store flow asks you to give.
- Nothing would take away your statutory rights under Irish or EU consumer law.
9Availability during the pilot
EaseTalk is in pilot with clinical partners. That means:
- features change, appear and occasionally disappear;
- the service will sometimes be unavailable, planned or otherwise;
- some things in the app are ahead of what the servers can do yet, and where we know about one that affects you, we have said so on the relevant page;
- we do not offer a service level guarantee or an uptime commitment.
Taking part in the pilot is voluntary. You can stop at any time.
Please do not use EaseTalk as the only place any important information exists. Keep your own copy of anything that matters to you.
10Intellectual property
EaseTalk, its name, its bird mark, the app, the portal, this website, the scenario content and the underlying software belong to us or to our licensors. These terms do not transfer any of that to you. You get permission to use the service for its intended purpose, and nothing more.
What you write stays yours. Your reflections, your mood entries and your planner notes are your content. You give us permission to store and process them as needed to run the service and, if you have consented, to make them available to your linked therapist. That is described in the privacy policy.
If you send us feedback or a suggestion, we may use it to improve the product without owing you anything for it. If you would prefer that not to be the case, say so when you send it.
11Warranties
The service is provided as is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we do not give any warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error free, accurate, or fit for a particular purpose, and we do not warrant that speech recognition will correctly recognise what you say.
Nothing in this section takes away rights you have as a consumer under Irish or EU law, which cannot be excluded.
12Liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Subject to that, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profit or opportunity, or for loss of data where you could reasonably have kept your own copy.
Because the service is free during the pilot, there is no fee against which to measure a cap. If paid plans are introduced, this section will be updated at the same time as section 8.
You remain responsible for clinical decisions. If you are a clinician, nothing in these terms shifts your professional responsibility to us.
13Ending your account
You can stop using EaseTalk whenever you like. To have your account and data deleted, email easetalkai@gmail.com with Data request in the subject line. That is the working route, and it is described in the privacy policy, because the app's own delete button was removed in August 2026 rather than left there not working.
We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we stop offering the service. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will give you notice and a chance to get your data first.
If the pilot ends or the service closes, we will tell users in advance and explain what happens to their data.
14How our documents fit together
There are four documents, and this is the order they apply in.
- 1
Governs personal data. On any data protection question, it takes precedence over the other three.
- 2
Governs the AI features specifically. On a question about the AI, the more specific term applies over the general one here.
- 3
These terms of service
Govern your use of EaseTalk generally, and apply to everything not covered more specifically above.
- 4
A statement of how we build, not a contract. It does not create legal obligations, and where it differs from the documents above, they apply.
Where a term is found to be unenforceable, the rest of these terms continue to apply.
15Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer resident in another EU or EEA country, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings there.
16Changes and contact
We update these terms as the product changes, and we update the date at the top when we do. Where a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app rather than rely on you noticing.
Questions about these terms go to easetalkai@gmail.com, or mfaggiani@ucc.ie. By post, write to University College Cork, Western Road, Cork, Ireland.
